OBIT: Frederick C. “Fred” Confer (North Washington, PA)
Frederick C. “Fred” Confer, 87, of North Washington, PA, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born February 27, 1928 in Sligo, PA, the son of Clyde Frederick Confer and Lillian A. (Bashline) Confer.
Fred graduated from Grove City High School in 1946 and was a resident of North Washington since 1955. He was a member of St. Paul’s Community Church and honorably served in the US Army. For 31 years, Fred worked at ARMCO until retiring in 1989. He belonged to the North Washington VFD where he was a lifetime member, former fire chief and man of the year in 1999. He was also member of the ARMCO Veterans Club. Fred enjoyed camping with his family, riding his John Deere tractor and helping with spaghetti dinners at his church. Fred was best known for making “Freddy’s Freedom Fries” at the North Washington Rodeo.
His memory will be cherished by his sons, Edward Charles Confer and wife Rita, of Summerville, SC, Bruce Allen Confer and wife Sue, Ronald Kevin Confer and wife Laurie, all of Petrolia; daughter, Linda K. Genola and husband Reg, of Aliquippa, PA; his faithful companion for many years, Helen Saper; nine grandchildren, Shannon McDonald, Carrie Confer, Laura Scott and husband Craig, Matthew Confer, Brad Confer and wife Nicole, Sarah Confer, Billy Brown, Megan Confer and Melissa Brown and six great-grandchildren.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Norma Evelyn (Wiles) Confer, whom he married October 14, 1949 and who died September 20, 1996; brother, William Robert Confer; sister, Nancy Olive Hagan; two infant brothers; two infant sisters and grandchild, Dilan Confer.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Friday, October 30, 2015, at Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 102 Argyle Street, Petrolia, PA,
Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at St. Paul’s Community Church, 2167 St. Rt. 268, Chicora, PA 16025, with the Pastor Ryan P. Lucas officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Chicora, PA, where military honors will be presented.
