OBIT: Julia Anna (Czudek) Young
Julia Anna (Czudek) Young, 92, of Kittanning, died on October 27, 2015 at home following a brief illness.
She was born in Duquesne, PA on April 24, 1923, a daughter of August J. and Mary (Kawulok) Czudek, Sr. She lived in Vandergrift from 1953 to 1994, then moved to Kittanning.
Julia was a Registered Nurse after graduating from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, where she worked as an R.N., and for the VA Hospital of Richmond, VA. After moving to Kittanning. She worked for the Prothonotary’s Office in the Armstrong County Courthouse.
She was a member of St. Mary Our Lady of Guadalupe Roman Catholic Church in Kittanning, the Legion of Mary, and the Catholic Daughters of America. Julia was an active volunteer at the Food Bank of the Community Action Agency of Armstrong County. She had a “green thumb” and was an excellent gardener. She was an avid reader and a whiz with the daily crossword puzzle. She loved to travel and work out with her friends at the YMCA water aerobics class. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother to her five children, 10 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
Julia is survived by four daughters: Deborah (Jeffrey Ahrens and grandchildren Zack, Jacob, and Luke of Melrose, MA, Marsha (Chuck) Bill and grandchildren Daniel and Carl of Columbus, IN, Kathy (Nicholas) Chasler and grandchildren Julia, Katie, and Nick of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Jill (Keith) Hague and grandchildren Lynda and Kelly of Natrona Heights, PA; son: Laird Patrick Young of Vandergrift; and two sisters: Dorothy J. Czudek and Florence Szpanka - both of Pittsburgh.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Laird Everett Young; sisters: Emily Pry, Mary Andres, Elsie Belbeck, Frances Holten, Clara McCune, and Theresa Czudek.
There will not be a public viewing; however, everyone is invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 30, 2015 at 11AM at St. Mary Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Kittanning with the Reverend Douglas R. Dorula as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Gertrude Cemetery in Vandergrift.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her beloved parish: St. Mary Our Lady of Guadalupe in Kittanning.
