Armstrong 9-1-1 Goes Down Again!

A telephone server failed when local residents tried to contact Armstrong 9-1-1 dispatchers early yesterday morning.
The server also reportedly failed in other regional counties - including Westmoreland, Indiana and Butler Counties.
Officials for the county departments are seeking answers by phone providers.
Since the new Emergency Operations Center in Rayburn Township opened in 2013 and joined the WESTCORE network, emergency responders and local residents have experienced other service hiccups.
A power surge knocked out power last August and caused about five months of repairs – to the point that Kittanning Borough Fire Marshall Earl “Buzz” Kline recommended sending a letter of dissatisfaction with the new radio system late last year.
Earlier this year, County 911 Director Ron Baustert said continued defective components found in the Uninterruptable Power Supply equipment – equipment meant to charge the batteries and keep them continuously charged – were the cause for the outages.
The new systems take about 30-45 minutes to reboot after a power failure.
Baustert called Schneider Electric and manufacturer Renmark, Inc. “diligent” in their handling of the repairs last year, shipping parts overnight and even sending a technician to work at the center for eight hours Thanksgiving Day.
The entire WestCORE network includes the entire 13-county region: Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, Westmoreland, Somerset, Indiana, Fayette, Forest, Greene, Lawrence, Mercer, Cambria and Venango Counties.

“and even sending a technician to work at the center for eight hours Thanksgiving Day.” What? Would the normal expectation be that 911 remained ‘down’ on Thanksgiving Day while some technician sat home, ate turkey and watched football on TV? Geez.

I know this isn’t under this topic but I wanted to say I saw Fabian on Talk of the Town and he had my vote before but after listening to him I am more sure than ever going to vote for him. I think he is honest and doesn’t say he will do things that he knows he can’t do. Too bad Battaglia wouldn’t attend as well as the other two. I think they lost out by not attending and letting people hear their thoughts and ideas for the county.
