Two individuals were taken to hospitals in Pittsburgh following an accident Saturday afternoon.
The accident occurred on Route 66, just north of Ford City at the intersection of Fairground Road.
The two vehicles involved were traveling south on Route 66 - a four lane divided highway. A 1998 Subaru Impreza driven by 75-year-old John Klimashko of New Kensington was in the right lane. A 2013 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by 77-year-old Sidney Callihan of Chicora was traveling in the left lane. Klimashko attempted to make a left hand turn onto Fairground Road while he was in the right travel lane and turned into the path of Callihan. The impact caused Klimashko’s vehicle to cross the median, hitting a PennDOT traffic sign. The vehicle came to rest in the northbound lane. Callihan’s vehicle came to rest in the median.
Klimashko received major injury and was transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh by Ford City Ambulance. He is listed this morning as being in critical condition.
Callihan received minor injuries and did not require medical attention. His passenger, 75-year-old Elaine Callihan, was treated at ACMH Hospital and released. An unidentified 13-year-old male was transported to Children’s Hospital. His condition was not available at the time of publication.
Klimashko will be cited for his part of causing the accident.
