Harry Hanna
Harry G. Hanna, 59, of Ford City, died on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born on April 28, 1951, in South Bend Township, the son of Arthur and Louella (Thomas) Hanna.
Harry graduated from Apollo High School in 1969 and then attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania receiving his bachelors of art in Business Management, graduating in 1975. Harry then married the love of his life Vicki on July 4, 1980 and they moved to Cherry Run in 1985.
Harry was employed by A.W. Miller Technical Sales in Zelienople, PA for 26 years where he worked as a Machine Tool Salesman. He was an active member of the Elderton Presbyterian Church where he enjoyed helping with the youth group and the kids club. Harry’s commitment was to training the young men and women of the Civil Air Patrol in search and rescue, as the Commander of Squadron 714 of Indiana, PA for 5 years. During that time Squadron 714 was accredited with saving two lives. Harry was also the operations section chief for Hawk Mountain Ranger School. Where, for over 10 years, he was instrumental in training over 150 cadets per year in search and rescue and survival techniques. Many of the same, which he would be proud to boast, have gone on to serve our country in the Military, Law Enforcment, and the ministry. He will be best remembered for his devotion to family, love of his country, and service to God.
Harry will be deeply missed by his wife of 30 years, Vicki (Gloss) Hanna; his two sons, Alex J. Hanna currently serving as a pilot in the United States Air force stationed in Tacoma, Washington and Ian and wife Francesca A. Hanna, both currently serving in the United States Coast Guard stationed in Seattle; and his “adopted” son Issac currently serving in the Army Special Forces in the Middle East.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marie Phyllis Hanna.
A Memorial Service celebrating Harry’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at the Elderton Presbyterian Church, 115 North Main Street, Elderton, PA the Rev. Edward Gray officiating.
Memorial Contributions should be made in Harry’s honor in lieu of flowers to the Butterfly Hill Preschool of the Elderton Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 159, Elderton, PA 15736 or the Hawk Mountain Ranger School through Pennsylvania Wing Headquarters Civil Air Patrol, Building 3-108, Fort Indiantown Gap, Annville, PA 17003.
