An elderly Dayton woman was scammed during a phone call Wednesday from what she thought was a grandson.
Betty Slagle, 80, thought she was talking to a jailed grandson in Mexico at approximately 4:10PM August 10 and that was told he would be released after sending two money orders for his release from prison. She sent two money orders totaling $5,100 to the address, but found out the men on the other end of the conversation were impersonators.
Armstrong County Detective Paul Rearick reminds everyone that this type of scam is being done throughout the United States and has made its way into Armstrong County. If you receive a telephone call asking you to provide financial support, before you send it, please contact the Pennsylvania State Police or the Sheriff’s office.
