Suspects Arrested for East Franklin Burglaries

by Nathan Lasher

After multiple cars and homes were broken into in East Franklin Township recently, suspects are beginning to pop up outside of the area.

“The major car break-ins, the nine-county streak, they’re in custody in West Virginia and just trying to close that case up,” said East Franklin Police Officer Josh Abernathy during a Supervisors’ meeting yesterday morning. “One of them is still on the run; there are warrants out for him, but the other one, the one that had the vehicle that was driving to the area is in custody.”

After Supervisor Doug Flanders asked Abernathy about those responsible for recent home burglaries, Abernathy replied, “The house burglaries that we had, they ended up catching them in Washington Township off of some cameras. They admitted to the burglaries in our township. The State Police took that over because it’s in multiple jurisdictions, and they are making leeway on that. So, they’re just trying to get the kids that were involved to confess. They have one right now that has confessed to doing break-ins, but there are multiple.”

According to Abernathy, other car break-ins have recently occurred in the West Kittanning area.

“People need to stay on the watch because it’s still happening,” said Abernathy. “If they see people that look suspicious, they should call.”

In late September, the East Franklin Township Police issued a press release concerning multiple vehicle break-ins which occurred in the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 22.

Money along with Laptops, cell phones, and GPS units were taken during the break-ins.

East Franklin Township also alerted residents by posting on the Township’s website, www.eastfranklintownship.com, that there had been increased break-ins to houses and cars in the township and surrounding areas.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the East Franklin Township Police at 724-543-1944. All information will be kept confidential.
