This may be Manor Township’s next police cruiser if the vehicle is mechanically sound. Supervisors could decide as soon as tonight at 6PM in the Municipal Building.
MANOR - Police Chief Eric Petrosky asked Manor Township supervisors to consider the purchase of another police cruiser.
Petrosky informed the supervisors of a used vehicle that was at North East Locators Auto Sales near Indiana. According to the sticker on the vehicle, it is a 2013 Chevrolet Impala that is trimmed in black and white colors. The 4-door sedan was previously used as a police vehicle and has nearly 82,000 miles. The sticker price lists the car at $8,977.
Petrosky’s request came after Manor Police contracted with Burrell and Bethel townships for police coverage. Petrosky said an additional vehicle was needed to properly patrol all the townships.
Supervisor Paul Rearick confirmed that another vehicle is not in the police budget and would have to come from another source.
Supervisor Don Palmer said that although it isn’t budgeted, it doesn’t mean it isn’t possible.
“It’s really not something we planned on doing. It’s something that we have been asked to do from the police officers. It’s probably not a bad idea. It’s all a new idea right now. So this is all preliminary.”
“We’re not only covering our own area now, but we are covering other areas. If we have a car go down, we still have that responsibility to provide the coverage. It’s something to consider.”
Supervisors requested Supervisor Bob Southworth last week to go look at the vehicle and determine if it is in an acceptable mechanical condition.
Supervisors could approve or deny the request as early as tonight at 6PM during their regularly scheduled monthly public meeting. Southworth is expected to give his opinion of the road-worthiness of the vehicle also tonight.
