Pyle Wins Big Over Bowman in 60th District
Pyle said he was confident he would be able to defeat Bowman in this election.
Republican incumbent Jeff Pyle will continue to represent Pennsylvania’s 60th District in Harrisburg as the State Legislator.
Pyle defeated Democratic challenger Jo Ellen Bowman in a race marked by accusations and a negative direct mail campaign, which Pyle predicted earlier this week would lead to her demise.
“Her favorable has gone out from 10% to about 22%. But what is interesting is her unfavorable has gone from 5% to 27%. With every negative mail piece she drops, hurting herself,” Pyle said last Sunday night.
Bowman congratulated Pyle last night at the Armstrong County Court House, then quickly left the building. Requests for interviews with Pyle were rejected, stating he was going to rest before he would make statements.
Pyle’s margin was overwhelming, garnering 67% of the vote compared to Bowman’s 33%.
Bowman only carried two precincts: Ford Cliff Borough, where she had 51.49% of the vote, and Kiski Township-Spring Church, pulling 52.80% of the vote.
Pyle was elected as State Representative in 2004 following Republican Jeff Coleman. He will now begin his fourth term beginning in January.
The 60th District in Armstrong County includes Apollo, Applewold, Burrell Township, East Franklin Township, Ford City, Ford Cliff, Kiskiminetas Township, Kittanning, Kittanning Township, Manor Township, Manorville, North Apollo, North Buffalo Township, Rayburn Township, South Bend Township, South Buffalo Township, Valley Township, West Franklin Township, West Kittanning, and Worthington. In Indiana County, it includes Armstrong Township, Brush Valley Township, Cherryhill Township, Creekside, Ernest, Green Township, Rayne Township, and Washington Township.

This is a sad day for Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, and the United States.
By worthingtonman, November 3, 2010 @ 3:49 PM
Speak for yourself Toni. The way I see it the people of Armstrong County got just what they wanted and needed. In fact I find it a joyous day for everyone. That is why we vote. The people have spoken.
By taxpoor, November 3, 2010 @ 5:06 PM
It looks like people have had enough and got out and voted. Toni you cant be serious! You honestly like what Democrats been doing to our state and nation.
By pacountrygirl, November 3, 2010 @ 6:34 PM
Toni, you speak for more than yourself. When I went to the polls yesterday, I knew only one thing for certain, who I was NOT voting for. It is sad that people have not yet seen through his phooney exterior.
By JohnK, November 3, 2010 @ 7:09 PM
That’s the beauty of this country Toni. You have the right to make such a ridiculous statement.
The people have spoken. This is a historic day in the USA. The people are finally angry enough at Obama’s socialist ways and the rest of the Dems are taking the heat for it.
Government is getting too big, wanting to take too much of our freedom away.
Pyle is a stand up guy. He has made an effort to solve every problem I’ve brought to him.

Interesting comment “worthingtonman” the people did speak and it made a difference. Too bad that can’t happen in this district! Oops forgot- there will be an election of board members in May- perhaps the people will speak again, and boot Solak, Stitt/Monroe and Kozuch out of office. it’s a goal worth fighting for to regain some sanity in this district.

Boy oh Boy!! Talk about a survey being unscientific!!!!!
Good news Mr. Yankasky I could not wait until next year. You are ONE vote ahead of any one running for School Director in my region. If the COUNTRY voted for change I hope the COUNTY was paying attention!! Talk about Mandates!!!!
By tpick, November 4, 2010 @ 1:57 AM
I must agree with worthington man. Toni, if you are so sad perhaps you could relocate to another area. I think it great that voters were able to look past some of the very negative campaigning that has been going on. Who knows, maybe some voted the way they did because of all the negativity???
By gordon, November 4, 2010 @ 6:53 AM
the man is nothing more than a complete fool and a fraud but i guess around here that is a quality people enjoy in their candidates
By scott_starr, November 4, 2010 @ 7:55 AM
voting is indeed something we should all be thankful for.
The issue is our choices. The R’s had control and we saw what they did, the D’s are(were) in control and we see what they did.
None of us are better off.
Apparently Pyle thinks lice is such an important issue he will take a stand as a private citizen, but $80MM, no biggie. That’s what living in Harrisburg gets you.

@Toni
I would say that the people have overwhelmingly spoken instead of it being such a sad day. That’s how a democratic republic is designed to work. As far as Armstrong County goes, I would argue that receiving double the number of votes than that of your opponent is an indicator that you’re doing a good job. As far as the national elections go, the mid-term elections are always a referendum on how the President and Congress are doing. Maybe if the current administration would permit me to list the federal government as one of my dependents on my tax return I would feel differently.
By Bolt Upright, November 4, 2010 @ 11:00 AM
Toni, I wouldn’t be too sad because the Democrats still control the Senate and it’s only one election. Voters just voted for divided government or what some would call gridlock. Without the help of the Tea Party the Republicans would have taken the Senate also. So thanks Tea Party for a job well done.
This is a repeat of what happened in 1994 under President Clinton and Clinton went on to win in a landslide in 1996.

I agree with Toni. To address JohnK’s comment that “Pyle is a stand up guy.” I had the opportunity to meet and personally speak with Pyle on several occasions. At a state-wide event for HIGH-SCHOOL age children he sat next to me and continually said the F-word and spoke in a very offensive manner. He also is incredibly un-progressive and is unwilling to consider new options for growth in our area. I am ashamed to have this man as a representative of myself and my neighbors.
By Ryan Bloser, November 4, 2010 @ 2:51 PM
Jeff Pyle is from this area and he remembers that. He stands up for us in Harrisburg and he is very active around the district. I’m VERY proud to have him as our state representative.
If this was such a bad day for Armstrong County, why did 70% of voters disagree with you?
By JohnK, November 4, 2010 @ 2:56 PM
Oh thanks for bringing up Clinton Bolt Upright. Shortly after he signed NAFTA into effect and all of our jobs went to Mexico and Asia, we lost our identity as the strongest country in the world. Thank you Cigar Willy!
By LouisWinthorpeIII, November 4, 2010 @ 3:25 PM
@RMB
That is why he overwhelming won, he’s like an Andrew Jackson, the regular guy! Go “Old Hickory!”
By taxpoor, November 4, 2010 @ 3:25 PM
Bolt, We do thank the tea party . They woke some people up got more people out to vote and showed the dems that there being watched and that not all americans sit with their hand out and wait for the government to provide them with everything.I hope they can keep it going till the 2012 election. @RMB,Consider your self lucky if your a working person and you been sitting beside a democrat rep he would have had his hand in your pocket to see what you had so he could give it to someone less fortunate for more votes.
By JohnK, November 4, 2010 @ 5:00 PM
U like what Obama has done bolt? really? Obamacare giving free medical until your children are 26 or 29? That is what this country has become. Too lazy to get a job, live in Mom’s basement until you’re 26? Don’t worry! Me and Bolt will get up and go to work every day so you don’t have to !!
By renee, November 4, 2010 @ 7:10 PM
Pyle’s campaign manager Tom Shaffer, was arrested for stealing his money. Pyle did the right thing for turning him in, however, he waited until after the election to do so. WHY? Maybe because he said he had no connections to this man? If that was true, How did Shaffer have access to his money???
It’s a great day for Ford City, the house cleaning has begun!!!!!
By lucky1, November 4, 2010 @ 7:36 PM
taxpoor, teabaggers are almost entirely clueless Republicans who are upset that a black Democrat is in the White House and are being manipulating by the economic and political right wing in this nation, such as Dick Armey and the Koch brothers.
In study after study, teabaggers have been shown to really not know what is going on, only what they think is going on. For example, less than 5% of teabaggers know Obama cut taxes for about 95% of all Americans. More teabagger candidates lost in the Senate than won.
The corruption is evident with Jeff Pyle. Why did his former campaign mamager get arrested AFTER the election? What role did Jeff Pyle have in delaying the arrest until after the election? Did Jeff Pyle also steal campaign funds? Those questions need to be answered.
By lucky1, November 4, 2010 @ 7:39 PM
taxpoor, Republicans are stealing your money and giving it to the wealthiest Americans so they can outsource jobs to other nations. Are you really naive enough to think otherwise? At least Democrats want to use American tax dollars for America, not so the richest Americans can get richer and the poorest Americans can be poorer.
By JohnK, November 4, 2010 @ 9:34 PM
Lucky,
I sure hope you’re lucky because you sure aren’t bright.
I am a Republican. I don’t care if our President is black, white or orange. I DO care that he has lied, used his race (at least the black part) to buy the election and sealed all records of his Muslim birth and upbringing.
I would rather have wealthier Americans getting money and being able to provide jobs, rather than squeezing them dry, they provide no jobs under Barack Hussein, and WE pay for their healthcare while Obama extends unemployment even longer.
The Tea Party is very informed, very organized and the recent elections showed that this country is fed up with Obama’s socialist ways.
By lucky1, November 4, 2010 @ 9:58 PM
JohnK, the main reason the age to stay on the health insurance of a parent was raised to 26 was because many in graduate school, specifically 22 to 26 year olds, have had to drop out of school to get a job in order to pay for health insurance. Those who have the talents and abilities to attend graduate school should not be forced to drop out to pay for health insurance. Not only is it a waste for those individuals, it is a waste for society not to have the most talented individuals earning degrees in fields such as medicine, engineering, computers, law, etc….
By JohnK, November 4, 2010 @ 10:39 PM
Keep spinning it Lucky. I agree that students should be given an extension of health care benefits. Extending it to 26 yr olds so they can live at home, work at Sheetz and smoke their dope ISN’T a good thing.
Also your buddy Clinton signed NAFTA, sending all of our jobs overseas. The outsourcing began with him. Again, spin it Obama style!

WOW- all these posts about the person from Ford City being arrested for embezzlement- what next? Wasn’t too long ago that another person from that area was supposedly arrested for something similar, but then again, nothing much was written about that one. Kind of makes you wonder what else is going on. I think the good people of Ford City need to wake up and see things for what they are.
By scott_starr, November 5, 2010 @ 5:32 AM
@ lucky
Sorry but studies indicate that Obama voters knew even less.
If you think intelligence is linked to political party, you are mistaken.
