Kelly Returns Power to Republicans in 3rd Congressional District

Mike Kelly

The Third Congressional District, which covers a huge changed hands again last night as Republican Mike Kelly won over Democratic incumbent Kathy Dahlkemper.

Dahlkemper defeated Republican Congressman Phil English in 2008. However, she was unable to retain her seat as voters throughout Pennsylvania voted in favor of Republicans.

Kelly, during his victory rally in Butler, thanked the voters who supported him with 56% of the vote.

“Tonight, voters across the country have sent a message that they are looking for men and women to go to Washington to fix the economy and practice fiscal responsibility,” Kelly said. “I have an enormous amount of respect for the Members of Congress who have come before me in this district. Tom Ridge, Phil English and Congresswoman Dahlkemper have all done what they thought was in the best interest of this district. There is something to learn from each of them. I’d particularly like to thank Congresswoman Dahlkemper for her service the past two years.”

Kelly said he plans to hit the ground running as early as today.

Mike Baker, Armstrong County Republican Party Chairman, attended Kelly’s victory rally.

“Mike did well, and we’re glad we’re going to have a representative from Butler right next door to us. I think it’s going to be great for Armstrong (County),” Baker said.
