Rizzo: Slowest Sports Week of the Year?

by Michael Rizzo

Tonight in Freeport starting at 6:00pm is the International’s Home Run Derby. Saturday night will be PA vs. the world and once the fireworks finish, we’ll begin the slowest week of the year for local sports. Unless the Pirates make a major trade or something unpredictable happens we won’t have much to talk about. I’m not complaining as people worry way too much about sports. However, once the Saturday hits, there will be a ton a successive events. Starting with Steelers’ Preseason, followed by the trading deadline, then into the start of college football, and before you know it high school sports teams will start practicing…..officially. However if you’re looking for something to talk about next week, keep your ear open for Family Life’s relaunch of WTYM 1380.

I agree that we are in a low time in sports excitement. Especially with the Pirates playing for draft position at this time of the year, but if anyone is looking for a reason to watch sports then you need to look at ESPN’s “The Streak”. By the end of the week you will be watching WNBA and enjoying it!
