Jazz Band to Bring Coolness to Kittanning’s Shoreline

This Saturday, July 24, Arts on the Allegheny will continue this summer’s free concert series in Kittanning’s Riverfront Park by presenting the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

“They’re from New Orleans, and they are coming up especially for this performance in Kittanning,” said Arts on the Allegheny Co-Chairman Chase McClister. “They’ll be flying up tomorrow, and we’re really expecting to have a great show. It sounds as though there are people traveling from not only all over Pennsylvania but from some of the surrounding states to come and see this because it’s a pretty big deal for them to travel outside of New Orleans and come to some place like Kittanning.”

Music for the concert will start at 7PM. Opening acts will include a Pittsburgh cover band called DNA Guitar and local musician singer/songwriter Cea Carlesi. Food vendors for the concert will include The Grill House, Garda’s Restaurant, and the Mulberry Street Creamery.

As the jazz band plays its first gig in Kittanning, visitors are encouraged to bring their boats and enjoy the river. “We always welcome as many boaters as we can get,” said McClister. “We are going to make sure to direct the speakers out towards the river again as we did with The Clarks. I think that went over very well with the boaters. So, we encourage boaters to come and enjoy from the river.”

According to the band’s website, www.preservationhall.com, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band derives its name from Preservation Hall, the venerable music venue located in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter, founded in 1961 by Allan and Sandra Jaffe. The band has traveled worldwide spreading their mission to nurture and perpetuate the art form of New Orleans Jazz.

“We’re hoping that the forecast stays rain-free and that everybody comes out and has a great time,” said McClister.
