10/31/1969 - Armstrong County Memorial Hospital directors have pledged more than $87,000 to the capital campaign to construct the new $10 million hospital. Hospital employes pledged an additional $56,000.
10/31/1969 - The Rev. Jessie Ray Akers took as his bride Miss Bonnie Mae Reitler in an exchange of Bibles ceremony at 2 p.m. Oct. 25 in Cowansville. The new bridgegroom is state secretary for young people of the Church of God of Prophesy. The newlyweds are residing at Rimersburg RD 2.

10/31/1964 - Two Kittanning High School seniors this week received letters of commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for high performance achieved on tests taken last Spring. They were Martha M. Vensel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack I. Vensel of 947 Orr Ave. and Terry V. Spencer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vangel R. Spencer of 6 Spruce Lane.
10/31/1959 - An 18-year-old Kittanning RD 4 resident died from crushing injuries received when his out-of-control car overturned on him on Route 28 near Transylvania Bible School. Arthur Gordon Claypool was pronounced dead by deputy coroner R. R. Rodgers.
10/31/1959 - The Kittanning Wildcats defeated Blairsville 20-2 in the final home contest for Red and White gridders on the Kit-Han-Ne field.

10/31/1949 - Rimersburg: Three fellow Congressional Medal of Honor winners were honorary pallbearers of the funeral of Pfc. Donald R. Lobaugh. Lobaugh won the nation’s highest military award after he was killed at the age of 19, while wiping out a Japanese machine gun nest on New Guinea. He is the only Armstrong Countian ever to receive the medal.
10/31/1944 - Pfc. Ralph J. Dominic, 20, Army paratrooper who entered military service on Feb. 24, 1943, has been missing in action over Holland since Sept. 17, 1944, according to information contained in a War Department telegram received by the soldier’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Dominic of Adrian RD 1.
10/31/1944 - Apollo: Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Gray of 204 S. 4th St. have received word from the War Department that their son Lt. Charles Whitson Gray, was killed Sept. 25 in action against the Japanese on Peleliu Island.
10/31/1939 - Early start of construction on a $161,000 cantilever type flood wall along the Allegheny River bank at Kittanning was indicated in a letter received by borough officials from the U.S. Engineers’ Pittsburgh office.
