Large banners, many candy vendors, and a haunted gazebo were all part of “Spooky Treats in the Park” last night in Ford City.
Hundreds of children and parents braved the rain drops last night to go table to table at Ford City Memorial Park and get sweets and other treats.
Known as “Spooky Treats in the Park”, it is a way of making sure little tricksters are getting safe treats. Businesses and non-profit organizations set up tables around the perimeter of the Park and dispense the treats.
This year, visitors also had a Halloween experience at the “Haunted Gazebo”. The decorated structure that included a flashing light show, smoke, and other technical features was the brainchild of Steve Heffner. Heffner confided that he spent all night setting up the show to make sure it worked as he wanted.
“It’s all for the kids,” Heffner said with a big smile. “I love to see the expression on their faces.” He said that it was designed to be too scary, but an effective display for children of all ages.
Many candy vendors were under makeshift tents to keep the rain away, while many visitors brought umbrellas.
The rain didn’t seem to bother even the smallest halloweener. They stood with bags open at each table to receive the goodies.
According to the National Weather Service, individuals participating in the Halloween parades in both Kittanning and Ford City will have to contend with some rain and strong winds. Organizers in both towns have decided to continue with the parade rather than reschedule.
