10/30/1969 - Ford City High School Band has been invited to play at the Apple Blossom Festival this coming spring at Winchester, Va., it was announced at a meeting of the Ford City Band Boosters as they gathered at the Ford City High School band room. The trip will need the support of Ford City residents as well as band members, it was said.

10/30/1969 – A total cost of the after-fire restoration at Central School Building in Kittanning was incorrectly reported yesterday. The actual number was $1,329,233.27. Insurance covered part of it, but the school district had to float a bond for $520,000 to cover the remainder.

10/30/1969 - Harry Himes and Mrs. Edward Campbell, Armstrong County commissioners, discussed their responsibilities in office for Dayton Chapter of Armstrong County Taxpayers League.

10/30/1969 - The Rev. Roy R. Shaffer family will hold an open house at the First United Methodist Church of Kittanning parsonage, 307 N. Jefferson St., from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

10/30/1969 – Big race this year for District Attorney between D. Dale Claypool and Joseph Nickleach. Joseph Frick will go against Ivan Mateer for Sheriff. John Kennedy and Nels Overland vie for the Coroner’s spot.

10/30/1969 – A few area youngsters gathered for some lawn football in West Kittanning. They included: John Febinger, 8, Pine Hill; John Shriver, 13, Briar Hill; Steven Fox, 9, Pine Hill, Bob Febinger, 11, Pine Hill, and Randy Shriver, 11, Pine Hill.

10/30/1969 – The Reverend Roger Shaffer family moved into the parsonage of the First United Methodist Church in Kittanning. In addition to his wife, their children Lisa, 6, Jeffrey, 11, and Roger Jr., 13, are part of the family.

10/30/1964 - Football players and cheer leaders at Kittanning High School, sold at auction earlier this week for prices ranging from 10 to 25 cents, played slave roles today in a unique student council event designed to raise money for 1964 United Fund. Slaves won their freedom at dismissal this afternoon.

10/30/1964 - Charles T. Hansotte of 2350 Pleasant View Drive, Ford City, and Diane H. Thurau of 220 N. Jefferson St., Kittanning, have been elected to councils at Pennsylvania State University, University Park.

10/30/1959 - Stephen Shaffer, 20-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Shaffer of 1101-4th Ave., Ford City, became the first patient on the new 20-bed floor pediatric section of Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.

10/30/1959 - Altman Dry Cleaners will establish a dry cleaning drop store at 181 N. McKean St., next to the A & P food store parking lot.

10/30/1959 - Veteran greenskeeper Elmer Bowser, who retired as caretaker of Kittanning Country Club after 38 years, was presented an honorary life membership at the club’s awards banquet.

10/30/1959 - Hundreds of children and adults, costumed as ghosts, goblins, witches, bowling balls and the like, thronged downtown Kittanning in the annual Halloween parade last night.

10/30/1954 - Armstrong County’s newest set of triplets were doing fine today at Brookville Hospital. The two girls and a boy were born to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bonomine of Seminole, raising to eight the number of children in the family. The triplets are the first ever born in Brookville Hospital history.

10/30/1944 - Mrs. Emma Hockenberry was severely burned about the face, head and body when stove polish, being used to blacken a coal stove in her Kittanning RD 1 home, exploded.

10/30/1944 - Mrs. Carrie Moorhead, 53-year-old Mosgrove woman, is a patient at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital here, suffering from a broken right shoulder and head cuts received when she was struck by a south-bound Pennsylvania Railroad train, just north of Mosgrove station.

10/30/1939 - Applicants for hunting licenses continued to jam Armstrong County treasurer’s office as an estimated 6,000 county hunters prepared to take to the field at start of the small game season.
