(VIDEO) First Halloween Event Attracts Zombie Lovers

Green slime was squirted as participants walked through the alley maze of the Toxic Zombie Walk on Saturday night in Kittanning.

The sound of old-fashioned air raid sirens and creepy sounds filled downtown Kittanning as the Radioactive Events Center hosted its first Toxic Zombie Walk.

It was mild on the scary side, but delighted participants who enjoyed getting slimed and foamed as they ventured through a maze that was set up in the alley around Templeton Way.

Event organizer Karen Gibson said the event wasn’t just for young people, but that there were participants over age 60 as well.

“This one woman bought the goggles, the plastic suit for her, her daughter, and grandchild. When I told her how some older people do not want to do it, she said ‘Why not? It’s fun!’ When she was finished, I told her I was her biggest fan! She was 67 years old.”

Karen said they weren’t trying to imitate the scary haunted houses, but rather was trying to have something that would provide family entertainment.

“This is a good little town. It needs activities that are just plain fun! And that’s what we are doing… just having fun.”

Karen credited many of the ideas for the activities of the Radioactive Events Center to her husband, Mark.

“We will be sitting around the table having dinner, or in the bedroom getting ready for bed. And he will say, ‘I have an idea.’ And then he just starts going with it and I tell him it sounds good,” she said with a chuckle.

The Center also features the foam machine that is seen at area parades and private parties.

The final part of the Zombie Walk was to get through the mountain of foam that was in the alley outside of the Radioactive Events Center.
