Armstrong County Planning & Development Project Manager Kathy Heilman said the old tennis court will be transformed into a new multi-use court at Fort Run Park.
Manor Township supervisors are working with the Armstrong County Planning and Development office in requesting money from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
“It’s a $60,000 project,” Program Manager Kathy Heilman explained. “$40,000 comes from DCNR, and $20,000 will come from Manor Township. It is to rehab and develop the basketball court to make it into a multi-use court.”
Heilman said the application must be submitted by 4PM on Wednesday, April 10.
Supervisor Chairman Don Palmer said the rehab of the park will also include installation of an ADA walkway, parking spaces, and installation of trash bins.
Heilman said that Manor Township’s $20,000 portion of the grant match will come in $10,000 cash, and $10,000 non-cash, which is in-kind contributions from township workers and volunteers.
Heilman also stressed that she would like to submit with the grant letters of support from community teams planning on using the field, as well as anyone else in the community that would write a letter to indicate the importance of having a local park for area residents. Those letters must be received to the Armstrong County Planning and Development office no later than Tuesday, April 9.
