12/27/1968 – The Mahoning Post Office will close permanently today according to Postmaster James H. Wales of Templeton. As of December 28, the area formerly serviced by the Mahoning Post Office will become Templeton RD2.

12/27/1968 - Judge J. Frank Graff celebrated his 80th birthday amid fellow judges, lawyers, friends, and relatives and gave every indication that he has the stamina to spend many more years on the Armstrong County bench. The event was sponsored by the Armstrong County Bar Association and held at the Kittanning Country Club.

12/27/1968 – James Brison, Templeton RD1, was first place winner in the annual Outdoor Christmas Lighting Contest sponsored by the Kittanning Lions and West Penn Power. All prizes were donated by Kittanning merchants and were on display Christmas week at 105 South Jefferson Street. Edward James Lasher of 1302 Sirwell Street in Kittanning came in second place, and Clarence Mosier of Tarrtown garnered third place.

12/27/1963 – A group of Ford City High School junior and senior students added $26 to the Children’s Hospital Fund from contributions they received while caroling throughout Ford City.

12/27/1958 – An eight-year-old Leechburg RD3 girl, Beverly Gray, underwent emergency surgery for a ruptured spleen at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital after a sled-riding accident.

12/27/1958 – School Tax Collector Stanley Ziegler said that the wage tax forms have been mailed to taxpayers in Kittanning Union, East Franklin, North Buffalo, Rayburn and Valley Township school districts.

12/27/1958 – A 22-year-old Kittanning native, Thomas Edgar Kline, died Christmas Eve in Germany as a result of an automobile accident. His stepfather and mother, Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Weber of Vandergrift, received fragmentary information of the death.

12/27/1948 – A fire of undetermined origin completely destroyed the second story of the John Jewett home on Lafayette Street in New Bethlehem. Unofficial estimates placed the damage in the $2,000 bracket.

12.27.1948 – A state policeman and the Armstrong County Sheriff left for Huntsville, TX to take into custody an Apollo RD parolee and a Leechburg RD youth who are wanted for burglary in North Apollo.

12/27/1948 – Ford City Boro Workers Track Down Wiring Breakdown. Fire Alarm Sounds Frequently Over Weekend Until Short-Circuit Found.

12/27/1943 – Members of Sherwood King family, including the father, mother, and a number of children were homeless as a result of a Christmas Eve fire which leveled their frame home along Cadogan-Slate Lick Road.
