9/28/1968 – Kittanning High School students were honored for high performance on the 1968 National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. High School Principal Charles Woodward presented the students with letters of commendation: Gary George, Charles Glendening, Dean E. Morey, David A. Reed, S. Edward Thompson, Suzanne Westwood, and Ruth M. Noel (who was studying at Santa Cruz, Bolivia under the Rotary Youth Exchange Program).
9/28/1968 – Robert Mateer Jr., president of the New Bethlehem Area Free Public Library announced a district-wide campaign to raise $9,500 in local support for its total proposed budget of $15,500. The remainder of the money will come from county and state funding. There are currently 19,351 books in circulation at the library.
9/28/1968 – Joseph A. Zanetti, formerly of Cadogan, was among four PA State Police officers honored for their courage and dedication to duty in the apprehension last July of a wild gunman who terrorized Three Springs for several hours. Zanetti is a Ford City High School graduate, and husband of the former Carol Ann Livengood of Lenape Avenue, Ford City. He is a son of Joseph Zanetti of 1st Avenue, Cadogan.
9/28/1963 - USS Patrick Henry- Navy Lieutenant Commander William H. Purdum, son of Dr. and Mrs. F.P. Purdum of High St., East Brady, is a member of the “Gold Crew” aboard the fleet ballistic missile submarine USS Patrick Henry, currently deployed on her 12th Polaris patrol in the North Atlantic.
9/28/1953 - A summer long detour on Route 422 between Kittanning and Butler will be lifted this autumn, but completion of a 3.5 mile strip of 4 lane expressway will be held up until next construction season.

9/28/1953 - Five Kittanning-Ford City district doctors were in Boston this week for post graduate study. They are Drs. Edward D. Bierer, J.C. Fair, Frank H. McNutt, D.W. Minteer, and Frank O. Robertson.
9/28/1948 - A Cowansville RD 1 farmer and his wife returned home from Kittanning Saturday night to find their home completely razed by fire. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Craig came upon the smoking ruins of what was once their home about midnight.

9/28/1938 - Climaxing an outstanding scholastic career at the University of CO, a former Kittanning schoolgirl sailed last week on the SS Normandie for France, where she will enter the University of Sevres on a fellowship granted to her by Northwestern University. She is Jeane Fair, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.A. Fair of Denver. Mrs. Fair is the former Annie Rhodes of Kittanning.
9/28/1933 - Kittanning merchants are united for the holding of a Harvest Sale during the last 2 days of this week. They have banded together for the offering of a wonderful array of merchandise during the Harvest Sale, which is to be made an annual autumn event at which seasonable offerings will be made.
