It will take a few weeks longer before the bridge on South Water Street in Rural Valley will reopen.
The reopening of the South Water Street (Route 2001) bridge, spanning Cowanshannock Creek in Rural Valley Borough, has been delayed.
Construction started during the week of June 11 and was anticipated to be completed in late September. However, due to construction delays at the bridge site, the new anticipated completion date is the week of October 8.
While the bridge is still closed, drivers will be directed to follow a detour along Route 85, Margaret Road (Route 2005), Margaret Road (Route 2003) and Route 2006.
In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may change.
This bridge is referred to as JV-361 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
The Rapid Bridge Replacement Project is a public-private partnership (P3) between PennDOT and Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners (PWKP), under which PWKP will finance, design, replace, and maintain the bridges for 25 years. The P3 approach will allow PennDOT to replace the bridges more quickly while achieving significant savings and minimizing impacts on motorists.
