9/27/1968 – A truck stop becomes operational today near the top of the Indiana Pike Hill, east of Kittanning on Route 422. As a safety measure, trucks over 21,000 pounds gross weight must come to a complete halt at the stop before proceeding down the half-mile hill.
9/27/1968 – A blinker light at the intersection of Routes 28/66 and Route 85 north of Kittanning may soon become a reality. The intersection has been the scene of two fatalities this year and about seven deaths in the last several years, county coroner John R. (Jack) Kennedy said.

9/27/1968 – Army First Lieutenant David C. Freilino, 20, son of Mr. & Mrs. James C. Freilino, Leechburg, received the Bronze Star Medal in Vietnam. He received the award for heroism in action while engaged in ground operations against a hostile force in Vietnam.
9/27/1968 – The highest honor of Scottish Rite Freemasonry was conferred on Vernon Graham Adams of Kittanning RD1 in Atlantic City. The 33rd degree conferral climaxed the annual sessions of the Supreme Council of Scottish Rite for 15 states comprising the Northern Jurisdiction of the United States. He was one of 190 individuals to receive the honor. He is co-owner of Adams Steel Erection, Inc.
