Senior Citizens Hold Annual Picnic

Senior citizens from all 12 center centers in Armstrong County enjoyed several musical performers as part of their annual picnic yesterday at Crooked Creek Park.

The Armstrong County Area Agency on Aging sponsored its annual senior citizen picnic yesterday at Crooked Creek Park under sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-70s. It was a welcomed relief from the days of rain and thunderstorms that preceded the event.

The agency operates the 12 senior centers throughout the county that provides recreation, entertainment, and lunches.

“It’s a wonderful day! We have a great crowd. We have around 300 today,” agency manager Charlotte Wells said.

The day included entertainment by “Elvis” as well as other local bands and DJs. A nutritious picnic meal was also served.

“The day’s event is funded through Area Agency,” Wells said. “Each one of my centers donated a basket and we raffled that off. They also bring in door prizes and we raffle those, so everyone feels like they got something out of this wonderful day!”

Senior citizens brought their lawn chairs and were spread out all around the entertainment pavilion for this annual picnic that honored them.
