During the public meeting of the Armstrong County Board of Commissioners yesterday, a proclamation was read honoring a local man for his years of volunteer service to many organizations.

“Armstrong County has been blessed to honor many residents on their achievements, but it is a special privilege to honor a resident such as Mr. Jack Bennett on the occasion of his retirement,” the Proclamation began.

Bennett had stepped down from many of his executive positions on committees at the end of 2017. He emphasized at the December Tourist Bureau Luncheon that he was still going to be around to offer his advice and wisdom.

Bennett graduated from Kittanning High School in 1962. He spent the next four years at IUP, graduating before enlisting in the Army in 1966. He retired from the Army achieving the rank of Colonel in 1999.

He married Luella Adams 35 years ago. She said that even before his retirement from the Army, Jack had begun to volunteer for various activities and committees here in middle Armstrong County.

His volunteerism has propelled him to serve as President of the Armstrong County Tourist Bureau for the past thirteen years, and president of the Pony Farm Trap and Gun Club. He has served on the board of the YMCA, Downtown Kittanning Incorporated business association, and is Head of Trustees at the Manorville United Methodist Church.

He is a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4843 and a lifetime member of AMVETS.

The Proclamation concluded by stating: “Mr. Bennett’s Accomplishments and Achievements are many, and proof that he truly believes in and loves Armstrong County. We, the Board of Commissioners of the County of Armstrong do hereby proclaim January 4, 2018 as “Mr. Jack Bennett Day” in Armstrong County and we ask that all join us in congratulating him upon his retirement.”
