6/14/1968 - Once again on a split vote, the Armstrong School District directors voted to change the criteria of a modified Master Building Plan based on three high schools instead of improving the existing secondary schools. A new high school would be built at Worthington. The three high schools would be West Hills and Shannock Valley as senior high schools, and Ford City as a junior-senior high school. The existing Worthington High School and Kittanning Junior High School would be converted to an elementary centers. Voting for the resolution were Amberson C. Bauer, Joseph McClaine, Mrs. Frank McNutt Jr., Dr. Donald W. Minteer, W. Joseph Morgan, and J. Fred Sherburne. Negative votes were cast by Mrs. Joseph P. Costanza and Nevin C. Rupert. Director Elzie M. White was not present.
6/14/1968 - The 66-unit Elks-Jaycees Flag Day parade in Kittanning will form near the Indiana Center on North McKean Street, move down to Arch Street, up to North Grant, down Market Street, concluding on Water Street near St. Mary Roman Catholic Church. “Ike” Benton, parade chairman who has managed most of the big Flag Day parades here in the last 20 years, said the units will be in place at 7PM, ready to move when the fire siren blows at 7:30 PM. The parade, traditionally an Elks project, is being co-sponsored by the Jaycees this year as the climax of their first annual Kittanning summer festival. Following the parade at approximately 9:30 PM, the Elks Flag Day ceremonies will be held in the parking lot of the Elks home.
