West Shamokin Defeats Ferndale in Double Overtime 36-30
by Jake DeLuca
For the second week in a row the West Shamokin Wolves (5-5) varsity football team found themselves in double overtime, but unlike last week the Wolves pulled out the win thanks to clutch defense and their quarterback Devin Fairman.
Like last week the Wolves lead the entire game until the fourth quarter where the Ferndale Yellow Jackets (4-6) made the right adjustments to force overtime.
The Yellow Jackets started overtime with the ball and would quickly score forcing West Shamokin to do the same and they did just that. Devin Fairman went 10 yards untouched for a touchdown, forcing the second overtime.
The Yellow Jackets once again had the first try and like their first touchdown in overtime Ferndale tried passing it in, but Jacob Szul would be in the right place to intercept the pass. Devin Fairman would score another rushing touchdown to give the Wovles the win and earn them a playoff spot.
The Wolves will travel Westmont Hilltop (6-4) on Saturday November 5 for the first round of the playoffs.
