For the past 13 years, golfers have come to Greg McKelvey when they had questions at the Kittanning Country Club in North Buffalo Township.
But, local residents will now seek his advice for a different reason.
The former country club General Manager last month segued into being known as the East Franklin Township Zoning Officer after former Zoning Officer Tim Lewis retired.
“I had been looking into possibly leaving (the Kittanning Country Club), and I wanted to make sure I left things in good shape. I’m proud of all we’ve accomplished there in the past 13 years.
“But, in August, this opportunity presented itself - I’m intrigued by the opportunity and hopefully I can contribute here to the township.”
McKelvey first became part of the Kittanning Country Club as a member and as part of the Board of Directors.
“When the club started having some difficulties, ultimately some of the other members approached me about taking a larger role – I quickly found I would be there all the time and then some! But, the good thing is we righted the ship there and it’s doing well for a small country club.
That has been a very big part of my life the past 13 years, and I’m looking to do some other things with my life professionally. (As Zoning Officer), this is a good chance to do that. I’m not ready to retire – I am ready to do some other things.”
McKelvey praised Township Supervisors, Secretary/Treasurer Deb Cornman and the Planning Commission for their help during his transition, and said he would most miss working with the Country Club staff.
In November, Kittanning Country Club will have a new General Manager – former Golf Professional Tim Nypaber.
“We’re still going to transition him in during the next couple of months,” McKelvey said. “I’m going to spend more time here, a little less there – but for now, I’m still covering both until we have a good transition.
“After 13 years, I can’t just walk out.”
McKelvey graduated from Kittanning Senior High and studied business at Penn State University. He and his wife, Amy, are both local high school graduates.
