The Armstrong River Hawks varsity football team had great success in the regular season finishing with a 9-1 record and the WPIAL Class 5A Big East Conference Championship for posing a 7-1 conference record.

Winning the Conference Championship has its perks, like having home field advantage until the Championship which will be played at Heinz Feild.

Before the River Hawks think that far ahead though they will have to defeat the Gateway Gators (6-4) this Friday.

These two teams matched up in the regular season during week three of the regular season. Like this week Armstrong played at home and the River Hawks walked out winners 35-21.

In their first match-up the River Hawks poured it on in the first half. By halftime Armstrong had a 35-6 lead thanks to three Zane Dudek rushing touchdowns and two Michael Lhote TD passes (one to Shawn Giddings the other to James Cessna).

Dudek also had his second highest rushing yards output against the Gators. Dudek finished the game with 352 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground.

Since the two met Gateway put together a string of wins, but finished the season on a two game losing skid against McKeesport 34-19 and Franklin Regional 24-19.

Last week against Franklin Reigonal the Gators had a hard time taking care of the ball as Gateway was intercepted three times and lost a fumble.
