All season the Wolves have dominated competition on their way to an undefeated 17-0 record before Thursday nights District 6 Class AA semi-final 3-1 loss against the Penn Cambria Panthers (16-2).

In the quarter-finals the Wolves defeated Westmont Hilltop easily in three sets, but Penn Cambria proved to be a much more difficult opponent.

Against Penn Cambria the Wolves lost the first two sets 25-21 and 25-20, but West Shamokin won the third set 25-21 to force a fourth.

Even though the Wolves were able to take an early lead in all but the fourth set the Panthers kept clawing back to take the lead. West Shamokin Head Coach Dan Spencer praised the Panthers defense after the game.

“They didn’t give up on any ball at all. To their credit I thought (Penn Cambria) scrambled to get to every single thing and they brought it back one way or another. They didn’t leave too many balls on the floor. I was impressed with their defense, pretty impressed with their quickness, and I think that probably we just haven’t seen anybody play the floor better than what they did tonight,” Spencer explained.

Unfortunately for West Shamokin this is where their season ends, but there is always next year.
