Go to the Farmer’s Market in Ford City and you will meet Joe Tedeski.

He calls himself a Backyard Beekeeper. He has been a beekeeper for 8 years and is also a member of A.B.C.I. (Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Indiana) Beekeepers.

Upon his retirement, he planned on getting into beekeeping as a hobby. His fond memories came from his grandfather, Lawrence Karl, who also had bees.

The honey Joe sells is a dark amber color. The color comes from the bees taking nectar from Japanese Knotwood and Goldenrod Wildflowers. It has a strong, good flavor. You can put it in your coffee, tea, or on your pancakes – anything you would like sweetened.

Getting the honey takes time and much patience, but it is definitely rewarding. The bees may work hard, but so does the owners of the bees and it can get quite expensive.

Joe is available at the Ford City Farmer’s Market on Thursdays from 3-5 PM.

Joe and Debbie Tedeski live on Garrett’s Run Road between Hawk Hollow and Silvas. He can be reached at 724-599-7601.
