Local Business Accused of Fraud
An Indiana (Pa.) business owner that operates a location in Manor Township is accused of defrauding PennDOT and a handful of insurance companies.
Last week, Pennsylvania State Police troopers filed criminal charges against Max Mohney, the owner of Mohney’s Towing in Kittanning.
In the criminal affidavit, State police said they began their investigation in April 2015 after the owner of Graff Trucking in Natrona Heights contacted them with questions concerning insurance billing charges – including a $1,200 charge for a State Police emergency call when no such charge is usually made, excessive charges for the use of a heavy wrecker and operator and an $800 charge for traffic control by Kittanning Township volunteer firefighters.
State police investigators also found two other similar invoices to insurance companies.
An emergency towing list of pricing Mohneys Towing provided the Kittanning state police barracks in December 2014 indicated the fraudulent charges surpassing $18,000.
Mohney is accused of 20 felony counts – including four counts each of insurance fraud, deceptive or fraudulent business practices, theft by deception, theft of services and theft by failure to make a required disposition of funds received.
While Mohney was released on his own recognizance last week at arraignment, a preliminary hearing is scheduled for the beginning of October.

Crime just does not pay! Would this be white collar crime? Small jail time and restitution, fines, court costs…. Wow Mohney!
