Kayak Race Draws Two Brothers

It was a simple race! It was a winner-takes-all in the $20 entry fee.

However, in the first year of the Riverbration boat races, only two brothers showed up to compete against each other in the Kayak Race.

Ryan Lucas from Chicora has been kayaking since he was a teenager. But his ride was anything but humble.

“These are considered surf ski kayaks. They are developed for racing in the surf of the ocean, but they excel in the waters of these rivers.”

His brother, Hansel, brought a Steller kayak.

“We own Performance Kayak out of Brookville. Steller Kayak surf skis are super light, really fast… these are our racing boats.”

Each contestant paid an entrance fee of $20. However, for this race, it was going to be between two brothers duking it out for who would pay for dinner on the way home.
