Construction on a new water line in Rayburn Township began last week.

Rayburn Township Joint Municipal Authority (RTJMA) officials confirmed that Pollard Land Services employees began work on the Spaces Corner Area Waterline Extension project, and will continue with installation along Iron Bridge Road and Troy Hill Road as early as next week.

Authority Board Treasurer Seth Myers has talked with State Senator Don White about funding for the project for “several years.”

“When he first ran for the Senate, I jumped him about the water project,” Myers said. “It’s taken this long to get it, but he was very instrumental in getting us funding. It worked out well.”

The project, funded through PENNVEST and PA-DEP Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation (BAMR) Grants. will involve the construction of roughly 50,000 lineal feet of waterline, a 200,000 gallon elevated storage tank and a pump station that will provide public drinking water to approximately 150 customers in the area.

Nearly a mile of pipe has already been installed, with the tank already erected on McMillen Road.

Myers and Board Chair Marie Leinweber hopes for the project to be complete in August.
