Rural Valley Woman Killed on Road Early Tuesday

A Rural Valley woman was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking east of the borough early yesterday morning.

Armstrong County Coroner Brian Myers identified the body of Annika Marie Strom yesterday shortly after arrival to the scene after being called by Armstrong 9-1-1 officials.

According to Myers, Strom – 22 – was walking along State Route 1042 (which passes through the communities of NuMine and Meredith) about 4AM when she was hit.

“It was dark – she was wearing dark clothing,” Myers said.

State Police have identified a 19-year-old Rural Valley man as the driver of the vehicle driving eastbound that hit Strom. Reports indicate Hankey was unable to react in time to stop as Strom was walking in front of his vehicle.

Strom – thought to be a Lenape Technical School graduate – sustained multiple blunt force trauma that led to her death.

Toxicology results through the coroner’s office are pending. Myers said those results could take about two weeks to return.

Myers and Pennsylvania State Police officials are investigating Strom’s destination – though there is speculation.

Coroner Myers and Pennsylvania State Police officials were assisted by Rural Valley volunteer firefighters and Citizens Ambulance emergency responders.
