North Buffalo Township officials are giving local residents and motorists a heads-up that a road will be closed at the beginning of next week.

Weather depending, Bunker Hill Road (also known as Route 3001) will be closed beginning at 6AM Monday to all traffic except for road residents and emergency vehicles so that Holbein Inc. officials can mill the roadway.

Township Supervisor Chair David Wolfe also said a PA One Call requirement to mark underground utility lines could also delay the start of that road closure – which would be from the WTYM AM 1380 Radio tower to the Pony Farm Road intersection - for a few days.

The road is expected to be closed Monday and Tuesday until 4PM.

Police Chief Jason Hufhand advised that motorists traveling from Ford City will have to detour along Mile Long and Linde Roads through Applewold Borough until arriving along Route 268 during the road milling.

Drivers already in West Kittanning traveling toward Ford City would avoid the road construction via Pony Farm Road to Glade Run Road and Ford City Road.

Supervisors also foresee a tar and chip project during the last week of August along Bunker Hill, Chechak and Gameland Roads.

Projected to begin at 6AM August 29, those roads would be closed until about the beginning of the Labor Day weekend except for residents that reside along those roads and emergency vehicles that may need to access them.

Road closure signs are to be posted.

In other news, Township supervisors are continuing discussions with engineers from newly-hired firm Young and Associates regarding a culvert replacement project along Sportsmens Road.

The firm hired in June is reviewing if a different pipe can be used to replace an existing one and if less money has to be used for permits. Officials from the Indiana (Pa) firm will meet with Department of Environmental Protection officials next week – a meeting Supervisor Chair David Wolfe said he has made himself available for if needed.
