Speaker Turzai’s Wine Privatization Bill Takes Effect

Legislation sponsored by Speaker of the House Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) went into effect last week to privatize the sale of wine in Pennsylvania and take the first step in dismantling the Commonwealth’s monopoly on the retail and wholesale sales of wine and liquor. Under the new law, PA consumers will soon be able to buy wine in participating grocery stores, have direct shipment of wine to their home and have wine-to-go from restaurants and hotels. Speaker Turzai said that he is confident the groundbreaking legislation will significantly enhance convenience and accessibility for consumers and may eventually lead to the full privatization of wine and spirits sales in the state.
