Strong Winds Leave Residents Powerless

As many as 2,000 local residents could have spent Tuesday evening without electricity.
During an evening wind storm that was projected by the National Weather Service to produce gusts of wind up to 50 miles per hour, trees, limbs and power lines fell on top of West Penn Power electric lines and left local residents in the dark.
According to First Energy’s online outage tracker, after 7PM, up to 1,500 residents just south of Worthington experienced the power outage and another nearly 500 could have been effected in East Franklin Township (specifically in the villages of Adrian and Cowansville).
East Franklin Township, Applewold, Worthington and Bethel Township fire departments all responded to downed power lines, with brush fires also reported.
Emergency crews were expected to respond and restore electricity before midnight.
Utility companies are bracing for another round of outages as strong winds of 40 mph are expected today when a wintery storm moves into Armstrong County.
