School Directors Vote on Parking Lot Use Monday

Since August, the former Ford City Junior/Senior High parking lot has been used by Borough shoppers, but it may be used for another purpose this Summer.
The parking lot on the west side of Fourth Avenue has been leased to Ford City Borough to accommodate Ford Street business parking, but Armstrong School District board directors will vote Monday night whether to allow the space to be used for the borough’s second farmers’ market.
The parking lot is leased for $1 from the school district.
Solicitor Lee Price explained that since school directors authorized the lease for parking, Ford City officials must seek permission if requesting another use of the blacktop.
As discussed before the beginning of the school year, the lease – unanimously approved in August - can be terminated if necessary to coincide with the sale of the building.
The farmers’ market – which is to begin at 3PM May 19 – was held last year near the clock tower on 3rd Avenue.
Borough Councilwoman Kathy Bartuccio hoped vendors who sell other goods might also be interested in attending the farmers’ market.
“We welcome any vendors that would like to attend,” Bartuccio said.
Interested vendors should contact the Ford City Borough office and leave their contact information.
Borough Vice-President Tyson Klukan was confident in Councilwoman Bartuccio’s efforts to grow the farmers’ market. He said council is discussing various forms of publicity to bring people into Ford City.
“I think the farmers’ market will be bigger and better than last year,” Klukan said.
Other locations are being considered if school directors deny the request.
The farmers’ market would end October 20.

Didn’t they meet about the budget last night? Why aren’t we hearing more about that? I could care less about this… It’s a great side story but what about the budget?
