Ford City Mayor Sworn into Office

Less than 24 hours after Jeff Cogley was appointed Mayor of Ford City Borough, he was officially sworn into office.
Cogley was sworn in at District Magisterial Judge Gary DeComo’s office yesterday afternoon.
It’s been quite the week for the 51-year-old Cogley, who had his interview with three Borough Council elected representatives January 20.
“It hasn’t really sunk in yet, but I’ve already been down at the Borough office (yesterday) morning talking on a few issues (that are) on the table right now,” Cogley said.
But, the 11th Street resident knew the part-time police department – currently with Interim Police Chief Freel at the helm – is a top priority.
“At the end of this month, (Council) wants to hire a police chief,” Cogley said. “Once we get that position filled and I sit with the Council and see what they’re budgeting and (hear) their goals for the police department, then that’s the course we’re take.
“I don’t want to get into it fast-and-furious. I want to do the right things,” Cogley added. “Hopefully we can make a model department in the county.”
Cogley also plans to talk with neighboring community mayors to see how their police force is managed and get some ideas. Yesterday, he said he planned to support and be a tool for the incoming chief.
“I don’t want to go in there stepping on his toes with how he deals with his officers or anything. I’m going to be heavily-involved at first to get it going, and then once we get things up and running, I feel that that’s why he’s going to be the chief,” Cogley said. “I need to let him do the job.
“But, I’ll be there for him 24/7 when he needs me.”
Cogley indicated there are more than 40 applicants.
Borough Manager Eden Ratliff predicted Borough Council members will want to conduct “multiple rounds” of interviews before selecting the next Borough Police Chief.
