LOCAL SPORTS: River Hawks Settle for Hockey Tie
Armstrong battled back from a 3-0 deficit to tie their home game last night with Hampton, but the River Hawks club hockey team walked away from the Belmont Complex with their first tie of the season.
Down 2-0 after the first period and 3-0 after an early Hampton goal in the second, Nick Long got the River Hawks on the scoreboard just about two minutes into the second period.
Giovanni Romeo would add another later in the period before Captain Luke Gross tied things up early in the third period.
Zane Wichowski gave the River Hawks a brief lead on a power play goal in the third period, but Hampton’s Luke Cirlingione scored his second to tie things up again and send the game into overtime.
No goals were registered during overtime play, even though Armstrong had a two-minute power play.
The River Hawks remain on top of Class AA’s Eastern Conference, but now only have a one-point advantage over second-place Greater Latrobe
