Rayburn Mother Wins H&R Block Sweepstakes

A Rayburn Township woman was among the first to win a national sweepstakes that is being held for clients of H&R Block.
Samantha Crawford, 23, picked up her $1,000 check at the local H&R Block office in Kittanning, where she has had her taxes prepared over the past four years.
“I got an email and I opened it up and I was excited that I won. (My H&R tax preparer) brought me good luck!” Crawford said.
Crawford is one of thirty-two thousand people nationally that will win $1,000 from H&R Block during the first month of the tax season. Anyone who files their taxes in a participating H&R Block office by February 15 can be automatically entered into the sweepstakes. A winner is drawn every day of the promotion and awarded the $1,000 prize.
Crawford said she already has plans to spend the money.
“I have two children - a two- and three-year-old. We will be going out to eat, and shopping, and paying off some bills with this money. I’m excited.”
A graduate of Lenape Vo-Tech in Cosmotology, Crawford has worked for the past several years at Fanastic Sam’s salon at the Hilltop Plaza.
“I usually don’t have good luck, so surprisingly in the past couple of weeks I’ve been having a lot of good luck, so I’m hoping it keeps going for the year!”
Local H&R Block Tax Preparer Barb Blaniar was thrilled for Crawford.
“When she came in and did her taxes and I told her about the sweepstakes, she filled out (the form) and she gave me her email, and I explained what would happen (if she won). Next thing we knew, she was our winner. I couldn’t be any happier for her.”
Blaniar, who has been with H&R Block for the past two years, said she feels a special relationship with her clients.
“Last year was my first year doing taxes at H&R Block and she was one of my first (clients) last year and she was my first (client) this year.”
The Kittanning H&R Block is owned by Rachel Anthony. She said the sweepstakes encourages taxpayers to file early in the season.
Meanwhile, Crawford plans to make her first purchase today with her new-found wealth.
“Probably some much needed new clothes. That’s definitely what I am going to buy.”
