A group of preschoolers smiled and danced their way into the hearts of senior citizens at a Christmas party yesterday.
Plumcreek seniors met at the Elderton Towne Hall for the annual Christmas event held by the Armstrong Country Area Agency on Aging.
Seniors baked cookies and prepared punch and other refreshments for the party, while the Butterfly Hill Preschoolers performed Christmas songs.
He may be surrounded by cookies, but 5 -year-old Mitchell has an appetite for fruit at yesterday’s Senior Citizen Christmas party in Elderton.
Senior Center Manager Rosemary Shrout praises senior center during Christmas project.
“It is our Christmas party, plus we were trying to make this an event where we give back to the community. That’s why we have decided to have the [Butterfly Hill] Preschool and then serve them cookies which the seniors have made. They took a day and they made sugar cookies and decorated them, some for the first time ever! They did a fantastic job.”
The left over cookies, Shrout said, will be taken to a nursing home in Elderton, along with a Christmas card.
“We’re trying to engage the seniors to interact with our community.”
Shrout mentioned that the senior center’s numbers have been low, likely because of seniors being more active and involved in the work force.
According to Shrout, approximately 38 seniors were present at the Christmas party.
“I would love to see this place filled up, that’s my goal, and the goal of all the centers should be that, to bring more people into the center.”
Senior Center Manager, Rosemary Shrout expresses her views on the Elderton Senior Center Christmas program.
