Inaugural ‘Spirit Week’ Starts Before Armstrong Homecoming

Prior to the start of the football season, players traveled around Kittanning and Ford City showing the River Hawks Pride. The excitement continues in the student body this week in preparation for Homecoming this Friday night. WTYM AM 1380 will carry live coverage of the festivities. (KP File Photo)

The first Armstrong Junior-Senior High School River Hawks Homecoming festivities begin today.

For the next four days, students are encouraged to dress in spirit week attire: including red, white and blue today during ‘Merica Monday,’ similar to another student during ‘Twin Tuesday,’ their favorite shade of pink during ‘Pinkout Wednesday’ and all their new orange-and-blue during ‘River Hawk Spirit Thursday.’

The inaugural semi-formal Homecoming dance, dubbed “A Black Tie Affair”, will be held for students in grades 9-12 from 7-10:30PM Saturday in the high school atrium.

Homecoming dance tickets were sold until Friday, October 9.

The 12-student Homecoming court was decided by students last week.

The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at David “Red” Ullom Field during Friday night’s game against the Brashear High School Bulls.

While the River Hawks have an even record at 3-3 following their win over Greensburg Salem October 9, Brashear posts a 5-1 football record (second in the City League conference standings) after they also won Friday, 11-0 over Westinghouse.

The remainder of the homecoming royalty will be announced along with announcing the Sophomore and Freshman attendants.

Homecoming was celebrated by West Shamokin High students during halftime of their October 2 football game - which was unfortunately a loss to Burrell.
