School Parking Lot Leased to Ford City Borough

Armstrong School District Solicitor Lee Price reads the added agenda item at last night’s regular meeting for school board directors to consider leasing the former-Ford City Junior-Senior High School parking lot to Ford City Borough.

Parking spaces previously occupied by Ford City teachers and students will now be filled by Borough shoppers.

In an added business item added to the school board’s regular meeting agenda last night, Solicitor Lee Price said the parking lot on the west side of 1100 Fourth Ave. – the address of the now-closed Ford City Junior-Senior High School – will be leased to the Borough for $1.

The lease can be terminated if necessary to coincide with the sale of the building.

School Board Vice-President Chris Choncek – who directed the meeting in-place of absent President Joseph Close – said the Borough approached school directors to utilize the parking lot for business parking.

The motion was unanimously approved by six school directors.

Board Directors Stan Berdell, Larry Robb and Close were absent.

Contacted following the public meeting, Ford City Borough Council Vice-President Jerry Miklos was thrilled to hear the news.

“We need it for business parking in the Ford Street area,” Miklos said. “That solves a monumental problem.”

Miklos, a member of the council’s Economic Development committee, did not foresee the current Borough officials metering the parking lot.

“We’re interested in helping businesses stay here and grow,” Miklos concluded.

The new parking lot will also be near the current Borough maintenance garage on 3rd Avenue.

The six present school directors also approved the lone maintenance agenda item - a contract with J Dunmire Auction Service’s Julie Dunmire for items left at Kittanning Junior High, Kittanning Senior High and Ford City Junior-Senior High to be auctioned off hopefully before the holiday season.

School directors also discussed personnel, student confidentiality and real estate before the regular meeting – which was School Superintendent Stan Chapp’s last before his five-year contract expires.

Why are elected officials not showing up to multiple meetings?? I’m sorry I can understand ONE meeting every once in awhile but when is the last time the board has actually all been at the same meeting.

If the previous board did this ( they didn’t) everyone on here would be complaining. This is ridiculous- if you can’t do your elected position justice then ~RESIGN~… If it would help I can type you up a draft of a resignation letter that you can just sign so you can just move on with the rest of your lives.

I have also noticed the absence of directors on a regular basis. But you see, the public/taxpayers don’t pay attention. Until we have people that care enough to get involved, they will continue the practice.
There is no accountability. What is going to happen if they miss meetings? Nothing.
Of course, if it gets to the extreme, then MAYBE something will come of it. They are a joke!
