Volunteers from seven fire companies responded overnight to a fire at Giovanni’s Pizza in Sugarcreek Township.

The fire was noticed by a local motorist driving past the location on State Route 268 just after 1AM. At that time, the unidentified motorist saw flames shooting through the roof.

Although the fire appears to be accidental, a fire marshal will be determining the cause later today. No estimates of damages were available this morning, but sources say the building is a total loss.

According to fire fighters at the scene, no one was inside the building at the time of the blaze. One fire fighter received minor injuries to his knee while fighting the fire. He was transported to ACMH Hospital.

Assisting the Sugarcreek Township Fire Department were volunteers from Washington Township, East Franklin Township, Applewold, East Brady, Chicora, and Worthington. The Kittanning #6 Ambulance Service also assisted.

Fire crews were on scene for just over three hours.
