Freeport Sr. High School Student Wins Grand Prize in Recycling Poster Contest

A Freeport High student won the 21st annual Armstrong Recycling Center Poster contest.

Mackenzie Buday’s poster, “Recycle Today for a Better Tomorrow,” will be featured on the front cover of the 2016 calendar.

The Armstrong County Board of Commissioners and the Progressive Workshop of Armstrong County have also announced the other 12 the 2016 Recycling Calendar Contest Winners - one per month.

A winner also came from the Armstrong School District.

Those winners include: Lauren Alworth, Ally Hindman, Dori Kralj and Lauren McNany of Allegheny Clarion Valley Jr. Sr. High School; Alina Farster and Katie LeVesque of Apollo Ridge Elementary School; Mackenzie Scherer and Shali Slater of Chicora Elementary School; Alex Avi of Divine Redeemer School; Reagan Frederick of Kiski Area Intermediate School; Alexi Stewart of Sugarcreek Elementary School, and Brittany Steele, of West Shamokin Jr. Sr. High School.

Honorable mention awards were given to students at Kiski Area Intermediate School, Allegheny Clarion Valley Jr. Sr. High School, Apollo Ridge Middle School, Chicora Elementary School, Divine Redeemer School, Sugarcreek Elementary School and West Shamokin Jr. Sr. High School.

All winners will receive a certificate signed by the Armstrong County Board of Commissioners and a prize pack.

Buday received a gift certificate donated by Fox’s Pizza Den in Kittanning.

Calendars are free to the public.
