Motorcycle Driver Killed in Weekend Crash

A deadly motorcycle accident occurred 1/8 mile north of State Route 1035 (Oscar Road) on Route 28/66 in Boggs Township on Saturday, August 8.

Roger Lee Wheat, Jr, 50, of Berts Hill Drive, Kittanning was traveling north on State Route 28/66 at approximately 12:30 PM when the 2002 Harley Davidson he was driving failed to negotiate a curve, forcing the motorcycle to cross the center double yellow line into the southbound lane. The motorcycle hit a 2012 Ford Fusion driven by 26-year-old Holly Maloney of Meadville. The motorcycle bounced off her car. As Wheat tried to gain control, he swerved left and hit a 2012 Toyota Rav 4 head-on driven by 20-year-old Jennifer Notto of Rural Valley. Wheat was thrown from his bike.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Brian K. Myers. The cause of death was due to multiple blunt force injuries due to the accident. No autopsy will be performed and toxicology results are pending.

The investigation was investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police in Kittanning. According to reports, Wheat was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Other assistance at the scene was provided by Templeton/Pine Township Fire Departments and Kittanning #6 Ambulance.

Wheat was known throughout the area as a pharmacist for the Rite Aid store in West Kittanning.
