Cat Found in Downtown Kittanning

The Kittanning Paper is looking for the owners of this young cat found last night roaming the streets.

A young cat was found in downtown Kittanning near the Kittanning Paper office on South Jefferson Street.

The cat appeared in the area shortly before midnight Tuesday night.

According to local patrons outside area bars, the cat was wandering from person to person on the street and was very friendly. However, it was also walking on South Jefferson Street and almost was hit by several drivers unaware of its presence.

It was not wearing a collar and is white with orange markings on the ears and feet.

The cat currently has emergency housing in the Kittanning Paper office. It was treated to a can of cat food, water, and private bathroom facilities.

The cat possibly got outside and wandered away from a nearby house or apartment. Anyone with information concerning the owners of this feline may come to the Kittanning Paper office and take it back to its rightful owner.

She looks in good shape (nice fur/not real skinny), so she probably does belong to someone who thinks it’s okay to let cats loose. (It’s not OK.)
It may have lost its scent to get back home after all the rain we’ve been having.

If a cat is spayed or neutered, it usually doesn’t roam for more than a 3-block radius from its home. You’ll be able to tell if it’s been neutered, of course. If a cat is not “fixed,” it may travel for miles away from its original home.

    The cat definitely isn’t feral.

People think cats can fend for themselves, but they really can’t. They are domesticated, like dogs.

I’ve seen a lot of strays in Kittanning in the past. Many go to the shelter. I adopted one of my cats from the Orphans of the Storm. She was a stray from Kittanning, they said. She is the softest, the smartest, and the most loving cat I’ve ever known.

The friendliness of this cat indicates that she is hungry and wants to be adopted by a responsible, loving owner. She is giving it all she got!

Cats on the street only live to be 3-4 years old.

Still here. We put up signs around town in hopes of letting the owner know she is here. I am not vet, but judging on her frame, I would say this was her first venture of being in heat. That would also account for why the cat left its home. It is very affectionate and obviously used to being around people. Thanks for asking.

Male cats could have chased her. I hope she’s not with kitten!
