A local musician who has performed live throughout Kittanning returned to the area in what might be his only local violin performance this summer, for the Manorville United Methodist Church Mother-Daughter Banquet last night.
Matt Janovsky, a 2012 Kittanning Senior High graduate, played for an hour in the Manorville church basement hall and performed nearly a dozen songs – including some contemporary Christian compilations – on his violin.
It was the first Mother-Daughter event at Manorville United Methodist and first time Pastor Alli Berkey has seen Janovsky perform. She was amazed with both the attendance yesterday evening, especially from people she didn’t know, and his talent.
“Amazing – totally amazing,” Pastor Berkey said. “I can’t believe we got something like that for a Mother-Daughter banquet.
I wish he could play for another two hours. I really enjoyed this.”
Church Lay Minister Sandy McKee wrote a murder mystery and performed it with fellow parishioner Lynn Sibley before, and also praised Janovsky for his talent.
Church Secretary Lu Bennett said nearly 50 women attended the evening different and entertainment
While women were eating cake and drinking coffee, Church Councilmen and Trustees Jim Boarts, Mike Snyder and Jim Orton heard Janovsky perform while they cleaned up and occasionally stopped to watch.
“He does a nice job - he’s very talented,” Boarts said.
A similar Mother-Daughter event was held at Union Avenue Methodist this month as well.
It was Janovsky’s third performance at Manorville United Methodist – twice during Mother-Daughter banquets and another earlier during a church grant performance.
Before the concert, Janovsky said he was looking forward to performing again in the area
Janovsky, of East Franklin, has performed in front of large crowds locally – such as during Arts on the Allegheny performances at the John Murtha Amphitheater in Kittanning – but his largest performance came with band “The Piano Guys” as part of the band’s “A Family Christmas Tour.”
That show occurred during his school’s winter break at EnergySolutions Arena December 20, where he performed a trio of songs with the musical group’s orchestra, including “Beethoven’s 5 Secrets,” “Silent Night” and “Angels from the Realms of Glory.
Janovsky is a Utah Valley University student after transferring from Indiana University of Pennsylvania –the former where he hopes to achieve two Bachelor’s degrees in Media Composition and Music Technology during the next three years.
Matt knew at the age of 13 he wanted to pursue a career in music and is best known for his hip-hop violin performances during Arts on the Allegheny summer concerts and classical renditions during weddings regionally.
