During its Monday meeting, Ford City Borough Council approved a lease for the Ford City Library.
The library is located in a building on 4th Avenue owned by the Borough. The library board has begun applications for grants that require certification that the library has a home for at least the next 75 years.
“We have been deliberating with the library for the last six months,” Ford City Council President Carol Fenyes confirmed. “Their grants that they get require that they have long term leases on their facilities. They wanted 90 years, but we settled on 75.”
Council Vice-President Tyson Klukan thanked Council and the library board for their diligent efforts.
“They have been working for eight months to clean up their standard operating procedure.” He said. “We have learned a lot with the library. As they move forward with their plans with neighboring municipalities, this provides a good framework.
Fenyes said there has been misunderstandings between past councils and the library board.
“The library board has been easy to work with. Now there is a document in place that states who pays for what. The problem has come up repeatedly. We now have the lease in place and everyone knows what is expected. We are glad to move forward,” Fenyes concluded.
