Iron deposits at the north end of Ford City as Council looking for ways to improve the brown water situation.
“We are receiving citizen complaints,” Councilman Tyson Klukan said. “Council has decided to apply for a small water sewer grant with a maximum cap of $500,000.”
Klukan said an upgrade of an 8-inch line from 14th to 17th Streets is needed. “The line needs to be at least 10-inch,” Klukan said.
Total project at this point is estimated at $471,000. A grant will require a 15% match also.
Councilman Marc Mantini said that the area from 14th Street to the bridge already has a 10-inch line. He said the smaller line between 14th to 17th streets was installed before Bellwood Gardens area was annexed into Ford City. Piping is over 100 years old.
Director of Public Works Kevin Nelson had to contend with a broken waterline on 7th Avenue three weeks ago. He said with the age of the pipes, Ford City will continue to see breaks until pipes are replaced.
